The Chemical Engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with study of design and operation in use in the chemical industries and works on the method of improving the productivity of the chemical production process.

The Chemical Engineering Department of NIT Agartala started its journey in the academic year 2009 -10 with a vision to be leader in chemical engineering discipline, and quickly flourished in short span of time as one of the eminent department of the institute in terms of teaching and research. The mission of the Department is to provide high quality technical education and produce globally competent chemical engineers capable to advance chemical engineering research in desire field and provide industrial solution and decisive management.

The department has well defined UG (BTech in Chemical Engineering) and PG (MTech in Chemical Engineering) and research (PhD in Engineering) programs. The programs are designed to provide best educational experience to the students and encourage the students to attain their career goals.

The department presently has team of vibrant, experienced and talented faculty members to provide effective education and updated knowledge, and mentor the students through the academic journey.

For the purpose of delivering quality education to the students and keep upto changing global and industrial demand, the department revises the curriculum from time to time with input from industry and academia. As an outcome of quality learning experience, the students graduate as competent Chemical Engineers and find placements in industry, research and academia.

The faculty members are also actively involved in research, consultancy and other outreach activities. The department has diverse research dimensions in various Chemical engineering domains as well as many other emerging and pressing areas of chemical engineering.

The department has state-of the-art laboratories for teaching and research to cater emerging research challenges. Facilities and infrastructure are added and revamped every year. For developing these facilities, funds are from various external funding agencies.

As an outcome the department has produced plethora of quality publications in reputed national and international journals, books and book chapters and patents. The department has produced several commercially viable technologies. The faculties of the department have delivered talks in several national and international conferences and have also received awards and honours in recognization. The department has also organized several workshops and seminars to disseminate the technology related information.

In the years to come the department aims reach further heights in all the domains of research and teaching.
